Discussion of Medical History and Lifestyle:

We will begin with a detailed eye exam, using a vision chart to assess how well you can see at various distances. Any changes in your prescription for glasses or contact lenses will be determined during this step.

We will examine the health of your eyes, looking for signs of conditions such as cataracts, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. We may use advanced technologies like retinal imaging to get a detailed view of the inner structures of your eyes.

Elevated intraocular pressure is a key risk factor for glaucoma. Our eye exams include measuring eye pressure to assess your risk of developing this sight-threatening condition.

This step involves using eye drops to dilate your pupils, allowing our optometrist to examine the back of your eye more thoroughly. This enables detection of early signs of various eye diseases that might otherwise go unnoticed.

We will inquire about your medical history, any family history of eye conditions, and lifestyle factors that could impact your eye health. This information helps us to tailor the eye exam to your individual needs.

What an Eye Exam Can Detect:

Annual eye exams can detect a wide range of eye conditions, including:

  • Refractive Errors: Myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism can all be identified and corrected with updated prescriptions.

  • Cataracts: Clouding of the eye's natural lens, common in older adults.

  • Glaucoma: Increased intraocular pressure that damages the optic nerve.

  • Macular Degeneration: Degeneration of the central part of the retina, a leading cause of vision loss.

  • Diabetic Retinopathy: Damage to the blood vessels in the retina due to diabetes. This is the leading cause of blindness in adults aged 20-74.

  • Dry Eye Syndrome: A common condition causing discomfort and vision disturbances.
